Keystone Edge

About Keystone Edge

Keystone Edge tells the story of the new economy in Pennsylvania--a narrative of creative people and businesses, new development, cool places to live, and the best places to work and play.

Each Thursday, the Web site and weekly online magazine presents original stories, video and photography to tell that story, from Harrisburg to Philly. Get Keystone Edge free in your e-mailbox each week by signing up here.

Managing Editor
John Davidson
John got into print journalism just as it jumped the shark, and he spent several years roaming around the country writing about crime, politics and education for various newspapers. After a short stint in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., as a night reporter, he bid farewell to the broadsheets once and for all and moved to Philadelphia, where he worked for NBC Universal before becoming immersed in the world of online freelance journalism, which he now does full time. In addition to managing Keystone Edge, John writes and makes web videos for Planphilly.com, a site affiliated with PennPraxis, the clinical arm of UPenn's School of Design. John also plays shows with his band, The New Time, which has been described as "Tom Waits dreaming of New Orleans," but is probably better described as "rowdy bar music." Born in Georgia and raised in Alaska, he now lives with his wife in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, which is one of those "up-and-coming" neighborhoods that will be super hip and full of cafes and boutiques in about five years.

Innovation & Job News Editor
Joseph Plummer
Joseph considers himself lucky to have gotten to know the Pittsburgh region from several vantages—as associate editor of the editorial page for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, communication and public policy manager for Duquesne Light, and business association executive in charge of member networks and public policy for the Pittsburgh Technology Council. Lately, he’s been engaged with two ongoing novel projects, as well as a variety of consulting and freelance writing pursuits. Before Pittsburgh, Joseph did freelance writing in France and West Africa and worked for the St. Petersburg Times. He got his college education at the University of California, Riverside, and, later, was a professional journalism fellow at Stanford. This year, he won the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania’s Golden Quill Award for magazine writing in science and technology. In addition to the distinctive character of Pittsburgh and its people, Joseph admires the resilience of the region’s ambition, and loves the new feeling of energy and excitement that has emerged there in the first decade of the 21st century. He considers Pittsburgh one of America’s great success stories, whose current chapter is still early in the writing.

Managing Photographer
Michael Persico
Michael is a professional photographer living and working in Philadelphia. He specializes in clean, thoughtful imagery that evokes feeling for, and from, his subjects. When not behind the lens, his interests range from building the ultimate single speed bicycle to riding New Jersey's fabled surf on a classic longboard. When pressed to name his artistic inspirations, he cryptically says, "I am inspired by photographers of the past, and motivated by photographers of the present. God, that's hokey, isn't it?" Michael has shot for Anthem magazine, Plan B Magazine, Anti- Records, Ace Fu Records and The Philadelphia Weekly.
