E-Mon, which makes solid-state electronic kilowatt-hour submeters, submeter reading software, and other energy management products and services, has been around since 1981, but it wasn't until 2009 that the company could truly stick out its chest.

The Langhorne company's E-Mon D-Mon V-Class Modbus Meter was named the 2009 Product of the Year from Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine, whose readership of 46,000 engineering professionals voted on the honor. E-Mon drew such praise because of the product's innovation, which specifically targets building automation--coordinating lighting, air conditioning, and metering to work together.

The electric sumeter market leader has 400,000 performance-optimizing meters deployed in commercial and institutional facilities the world over.  The company has experienced double-digit growth in each of the past two years and increased its staff by 20 percent in that time. That's largely due to the company's ability to provide information on power quality and conservation.

E-Mon employs 35 at its new headquarters, which provides about 70 percent more space and allowed the company to rapidly scale its operations to handle the increase in demand for its products. E-Mon's new facility also achieved energy savings of 33 percent thanks to an energy-efficient upgrade that allows the company to control costs with occupancy sensors.
