Although much of Charles Halfpenny’s professional career has been devoted to electronic medical records—as early as the late 1980s—his company, Halfpenny Technologies has a different focus that has become razor sharp with federal incentives for healthcare providers to fully implement EMR into their practices.

Founded in 2000, Halfpenny Technologies is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for Health Information Exchange. In the last decade, the company has created and introduced technology that facilitates interoperability between physician electronic medical records and hospitals, laboratories and other service providers.

Working with hospitals, clinical labs, pathology groups, health plans and employers, EMR vendors and regional health information organizations, Halfpenny counts the Mayo Clinic and Qwest Diagnostics among its satisfied, cutting-edge customers. The company's ITF-Portal, a web-based connectivity solution, lets doctors securely order procedures and review results through a HIPAA-compliant browser and connects physician EMR with hospitals and labs.

Halfpenny, which employs 12 and is headquartered in Blue Bell, works with nearly a third of the nation's 300 EMR providers, which by and large do not offer laboratory connectivity. That means Halfpenny can work with a variety of labs and hospitals who have different EMR vendors. The company also recently launched its ITF-Mobile handheld system that allows physicians to securely access lab reports from their smartphone. Halfpenny anticipates announcing additional investors and personnel, as well.
