Morphotek, an emerging leader in the life sciences industry, develops unique biological-based products to treat cancer, inflammation and infectious diseases.
Since its founding in 2000, the company has made significant progress in developing antibody products through a process called morphogenics, a novel technology that targets specific proteins in cancerous cells, co-invented by Morphotek's President and CEO Dr. Nicholas Nicolaides during his studies at Johns Hopkins Medical School. The process was refined and enhanced with the help of the company other co-founders, Dr. Philip Sass and Dr. Luigi Grasso.
In 2007, Eisai Co., a global health care pharmaceutical company, acquired Morphotek. Eisai's considerable marketing strength and infrastructure are now available to Morphotek as it looks forward to continued growth and innovation in its highly specialized field. The company broke ground in April, 2010 on a 60,000 square foot manufacturing pilot plant to produce its experimental cancer-fighting drugs--a $40 million expansion that was expected to bring up to 50 new employees to the company in 2012. Once its first drug gets to market, another manufacturing site could be on the horizon within three to five years.
