A number of groups are promoting activities on Greater Pittsburgh's rivers, parks and trails that will make the 10th annual
Great Outdoors Week (GOW) from May 13-22 one of the largest yet.
"We're adding new events every day," says Ginette Walker Vinski, communications manager for GOW organizer
Sustainable Pittsburgh.
Sixty events are included in this year's GOW -- the goal is to make outdoor recreation a hallmark of quality of life in Southwestern PA. With events going on as far away as Butler, Canonsburg, Indiana and Mars, that should be well within reach. Activities include a fishing derby, orienteering, full moon hike, trail stewardship, adventure race, and learning how to rock climb and boulder.
Five signature events are included:
Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon on May 15, National Bike to Work Day (Car-Free Fridays) and
Learn to Row and Paddle on May 20,
Venture Outdoors Festival on May 21, and
Pedal Pittsburgh on May 22.
