Despite record double-digit unemployment, a recent Bloomberg survey of
the nation's top prospective job markets had Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
ranked 10th, signaling hope for the future, the Citizen's
Voice is reporting.
Local officials expect hiring plans could lower the area's
unemployment rate of 10.3 percent, one of the highest in the state's 14
metro areas along with Johnstown.
Manpower's projections show 22 percent of companies in the
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area plan to hire workers with a mean annual
income of $36,210.
