A Penn State professor played a key role in the development of Tesla Motors' latest electric vehicle--the 2008 Tesla Roadster.
 
Heath Hofmann, associate professor of electrical engineering, helped design a digital replacement for the 2006 prototype vehicle's unreliable analog controller. Hofmann was responsible for developing the algorithm used in this new device.
