Raymond Lane, a California venture capitalist and former president of Oracle, succeeds David Shapira as chairman of the board of trustees at Carnegie-Mellon University, reported the Pittsburgh Business Times. Lane will assume the post July 1.
Lane joined the Silicon Valley VC firm of Kleiner, Perkins Caufield & Byers after stepping down as president and CEO of Oracle Corporation, the world's second-largest software company in the world, in 2000. A life trustee of CMU since 1994, he has served as chairman of the capital executive committee. The capital campaign, launched under Lane's leadership in 2003, has raised $577 million toward its goal of $1 billion.
In a statement, CMU president Jared Cohon called Lane "a devoted, enthusiastic friend of this university for many years."
