(Kurt J.) Lesker's company manufactures and distributes equipment that creates a vacuum -- chambers, hardware and pumps -- and assembles vacuum systems. The company manufactures parts in a shop attached to its headquarters, then assembles them in a former auto dealership about a mile away. The work is done in "clean" environments, where workers wear jackets, overalls and covers on their boots and hair. Its products are important to scientists and researchers who must conduct experiments in a vacuum to determine the exact properties of materials and molecules.
