OraSure to acquire Canadian DNA testing company for $53M

OraSure Technologies, a DNA testing company in Bethlehem, will pay $53 million for Canadian testing firm DNA Genotek, the Ottawa Citizen reports.

The Ottawa firm, which makes technology to collect and preserve DNA in human and animal saliva, serves more than 3,000 customers in 100 countries. The privately held company's world recognized saliva testing kits have helped the firm grow from just five employees in 2004 to more than 80 today.

The company reported sales of $14 million U.S. during its fiscal 2010 year.
