Five days away from his 82nd birthday, Joe Paterno agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm of Penn State football through the 2011 season, reported the Philadelphia Inquirer.
[…]There was an additional clause in the statement, however, that said, "It was also agreed that the parties might reevaluate their circumstances and alter the arrangement by either shortening or extending its length as necessary."
The clause allows for leeway on both sides, although Paterno, major college football's all-time winningest coach, said last week that "there's no reason for me not to think that I can go for while."
Paterno had hip replacement surgery on Nov. 23, and last week said that he felt no pain and expects to be coaching from the sidelines when Penn State plays Southern Cal on Jan. 1, the paper reported.
