Philly to begin South Street Bridge redo

Philadelphia's derelict South Street Bridge, which links University City and Center City and serves as an exit point from the Schuylkill Expressway, will be torn down and replaced by a $67 million state-of-the-art structure catering to pedestrians and bicyclists, reported PlanPhilly on Monday.
 
The plans, announced Monday by Mayor Michael Nutter, include closing the bridge next month when construction begins and keeping it closed throughout the two-year construction process.
