A $15 million U.S. Labor Department grant has spurred economic development in northeastern Pennsylvania, say participants, reports the Hazleton Standard Speaker.
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the grant to northeastern Pennsylvania in February 2006.  Thanks to the funding, (Misericordia College) was able to offer new programs in financial practices and the rapidly evolving field of business continuity, where students learn how to help an organization develop plans to continue functioning after a disaster, said Misericordia University President Michael MacDowell.

"A lot of our graduates are finding very good jobs in these areas even in a very tight market," MacDowell said.

Wall Street West is a partnership of more than two dozen economic development agencies, technology investment groups, workforce development organizations, educational and research institutions and private sector experts throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.
