Where coal mining once flourished, the harnessing of wind energy has transformed a good portion of Somerset County. The 23-turbine Casselman Wind Project, located on a 165 acres of former coal mining land that stretchs across Summit, Black and Addison townships, generates more than 35 megawatts of electricity and meets the energy needs of at least 10,000 homes in the area.
In this video by Iberdrola Renewables, the Portland, Ore.-based developer of the site, efforts to reduce the turbines' impact on the surrounding environment is explored.
