Out in Monessen, Westmoreland County, young people have been coming to the
Douglas Education Center since 1904 to learn about business administration. In the last decade, owners Jeffrey and Janet Imbrescia have added art programs to the curricula, launching degree programs in
Graphic Design and Web,
Special Make-Up Effects,
Digital Illustration and
Cosmetology. The most recent artistic offering is
The Factory Digital Filmmaking Program, and it is attracting students who eat, sleep and breathe film.
The Factory, established in 2008, prepares students with skills to become filmmakers, producers, editors, gaffers, grips and directors, gaining hands-on experience with props, wardrobe and sets and also learning about marketing and distribution. Students shoot projects in and around the Mon Valley and use extensive, state-of-the-art post-production equipment at Douglas, where films are screened at its own high-tech theater. Follow student/director Wes Adamson as he finalizes his project of digital shorts.
