Paying for things in Philadelphia’s upscale Rittenhouse Square often requires an extra dive into the wallet or purse for a little more money. So at the neighborhood’s annual
Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival on Saturday, it was never so easy for consumers to part with their cash.
Philly-based XIPWIRE, a mobile payment service that officially launched its simple text-to-pay method last month, sponsored the festival, enabling city favorites like
Capogiro,
Metropolitan Bakery, and
Tierra Mia Organic Spa to accept payment via a text message from more than 60,000 potential customers expected at the festival. It was believed to be the largest text-powered street festival as XIPWIRE looks to increase its presence and expose more potential users throughout Greater Philadelphia.
In addition to setting up free XIPWIRE accounts at Rittenhouse Row, the company also invited people to text their vote for their favorite food for the Festival’s first Best Dish Contest and teamed with new mobile Internet provider CLEAR to create the city's largest Wi-Fi hotspot.
