Erie’s Gannon University nurses pass the number one test

on

The proof is in the passing for Gannon University’s Villa Maria School of Nursing. The two classes that graduated between October 2007 and September 2008 scored the highest percentage of first-try passers in Pennsylvania for the national licensing exam that allows trained nurses to enter the practice in their field. Passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses is a requirement for licensure in all U.S. states and territories.

“We are extremely proud to have received this honor,” said Patricia Marshall, the school’s director of undergraduate nursing at the college, which is located in Erie.

Along with the distinction of having the best corps of nurses in the state prepared to prove their readiness to enter the profession, the school received a special letter of commendation from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

In addition to a well-designed basic training program, Gannon’s nurses in training receive preparation and coaching for the exam from the first year in the school’s program, which includes benchmarked performance and feedback that emphasizes test-taking skills and improvement plans.

“Our faculty voluntarily spends time with students to get them ready,” Marshall says, crediting the achievement to focused determination to move right into the job market after school.
