Southwest PA maker of oil and gas industry equipment building new HQ in Jeannette

on

A nearly century-old company that designs, manufactures and maintains equipment for the oil and gas industries expects to move into new headquarters next summer.

The Elliott Group, based southeast of Pittsburgh near the town of Jeannette, makes advanced machinery for drilling, refining and processing gas and oil. Its equipment can be found on sites all over the world, but about half of its more than 2,000 full-time employees work in western Pennsylvania, company spokesman Tom Brown says.

Hundreds of Elliott's office staff are spread among four buildings, some of which were built about 100 years ago. That's why the company plans to build a $14.7 million, 113,000-square foot office building. Brown says this will be an improvement because about 400 people from various departments will now be under the same roof.

A $2 million loan from the state Department of Community and Economic Development will help pay for the building, which Brown says should be ready for occupancy by next July.

He says Elliott is continuing to expand its workforce, mostly in major oil- and gas-producing areas like Brazil, China and the Middle East. It's also exploring the possibility of entering the Marcellus Shale natural-gas production market in Pennsylvania even though it works on larger production facilities than those at drilling sites here.
